Sean Spicer confirms that Donald Trump's tweets are official statements
On Tuesday, during the White House daily press briefings, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told folks that Donald Trump’s tweets are “official statements.”
Spicer said, “The president is the president of the United States so they’re considered official statements by the president of the United States.”
Donald Trump’s series of tweets over the weekend and on Monday have been a cause of concern.
His tweet that falsely accused London Mayor Sadiq Khan of trying to downplay the terrorists attacks in London, and Trump’s tweet verifying that the travel ban is a travel ban has drawn criticism from members within his own party.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said that he wishes Trump wouldn’t tweet so much because it distracts from the issues.
Stuart Varney appeared on “Fox and Friends” and said that Republicans aren’t able to focus on the party’s issues of tax reform and health care because Trump is “wildly tweeting late into the night.”
White House officials have come out and said that Trump’s tweets are nothing more than social media banter.
White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway told the folks over at The Today Show that the media needs to stop “obsessing” over Trump’s tweets.
Sebastian Gorka, who is the deputy assistant to the president, told CNN’s “New Day” host Chris Cuomo that Donald Trump’s tweets are not important because “it’s not policy. It’s social media.”
